A new role and territory has brought one Patterson rep back to some familiar faces

When Kelly Wyatt walks into a veterinary hospital, she is determined to treat everyone with the same respect, from the front office personnel, to the veterinarians, and to the staff working in the back. “Everybody in the clinic is critical in making the place tick, and I have a responsibility to help every one of them succeed,” she says.

It’s wisdom that has served her well in her career, and in her relatively new role as a Territory Manager for Patterson Veterinary. Wyatt was named the Rookie of the Year for the organization’s Central Region.

Over 850 persons gathered at the Resort to meet with and learn from manufacturers, suppliers, and peers, conduct and receive training and education, and to celebrate and recognize the companies’ successful FY2018.

Patterson Veterinary Supply and Animal Health International, along with Canada’s Kane Veterinary Supply and the U.K.’s National Veterinary Service, form a business unit of Patterson Companies known as “Patterson Animal Health.” Representatives of all four organizations attended the meeting in Scottsdale.

Vet-Advantage: How many of your veterinary clinics suffered damage from the hurricane? How many have had to rebuild?

Charles Dinsdale: I had about four clinics that had damage. More often than not, it was somebody with the hospital – owner, veterinarian or staff members – that had trouble with their own homes.

The practices that had damage didn’t have to totally rebuild, but they had to rebuild certain rooms and things like that. Remodel would be a more accurate description. They had to fix a few things here and there.

They have obviously expedited the process of getting the practices back up, but there are still a lot of people to this day where their homes are not finished. I have one veterinarian that up until July was living in an RV because his house was totally flooded, and he didn’t have flood insurance. He was having to pay for it out of pocket.

The problem with both homes and hospitals in this area has been the damage was so massive and widespread that there was a deficit of contractors to get the job done, and there was consequently a backlog. There are still some final touches to be put on some hospitals, but they are back up and running and have been now. But some people are out of their homes, or living upstairs and finishing the remodel of the downstairs, things of that nature.
